Chrysanthemums have the special meaning of love and come in every color except blue. They are most abundant in the fall, but available year round in various varieties. This flower looks great in any flower arrangement, especially the green variety, because it adds a nice color contrast up next to your other dark greenery. Because of it’s sturdiness, pearls and other accessories, such as crystal butterflies, work well in this flower.
Hydrangeas originated in Japan and mean perseverance. They are available in white, pink, blue, green, and an antique mix of green/red and purple/blue.
Daffodils are a sign that winter is coming to an end and warmer weather is approaching. They represent the essence of chivalry. They are available in yellow, white, and yellow/orange, looking wonderful in spring floral arrangements to add a splash of color.
Lily of the Valley is a sign of happiness and joy. It is available during the spring months in white. This flower adds a lot of interest accompanied by other flowers in floral arrangements and wedding bouquets.
Snapdragons are available year round from various countries in pink, orange, burgundy, yellow and white. I love how the long stems and buds of flowers look in a tall flower arrangement.
Tulips are available in every color except blue and available year round. At one time tulips were very expensive because of their rarity. This flower looks great in bouquets, flower arrangements, corsages, you name it!
Forget-Me-Nots symbolize true love and remembrance forever. They are available in blue, pink, or white with yellow centers and are abundant in the spring.
Larkspur is available in the summer through fall in blue, purple, lavender, pink and white. They symbolize a beautiful spirt. Larkspur has many blooming delicate flowers, and the unopened buds at the top create a very nice and interesting contrast. This flower works well in tall flower arrangements.
Dahlias are available in the summer through fall in red, orange, burgundy, yellow, white and pink. Originating from Mexico, Dahlias have stunningly bright and beautiful waxy flowers. Just look at this bouquet!
Delphinium is available year round in various varieties in blue (dark and light), purple, lavender, pink and white. The Delphinium flower eludes boldness and most commonly comes in purple.
Carnations are available year round in every color except blue. Carnations are quite striking when used for kissing flower balls. They have several different meanings depending on their color; pink symbolizes gratitude, red is flashy, white is for remembrance and yellow is cheerful. This flower is also a great addition to any flower bouquet or floral arrangement.
Irises symbolize Affection, blue seeming to be the favorite color over the years. Irises work amazingly in wedding bouquets and add a bold blue to any floral arrangement.
Rosemary symbolizes fidelity and is available year round. This herb adds wonderful aromas to your reception table centerpieces. It also completes a floral arrangement that needs some added greenery.
Freesia is available year round in cream, lavender, yellow, white, pink and red/orange. Freesia symbolizes a strong spirit, adding beautiful texture and interest to any wedding bouquet.
Roses are available year round and in every color except blue. Roses symbolize romance, explaining why they are so popular for weddings and other loving occasions. Roses look outstanding in any wedding floral arrangement.
Hyacinth is available winter through spring in pink, white, purple, yellow, red, lavender, and orange. Hyacinth symbolizes sincerity; a very unique flower, exuberayting in color for your winter wedding.
Sunflowers are available in yellow in the summer through fall. I adore this flower, which explains it’s meaning of adoration. Just look how striking these flowers can be against a white wedding gown. They are just as beautiful used as table centerpieces and floral arrangements.
Sweet Peas are available in the winter through spring in white, pink, purple, peach, red and yellow. Sweet peas symbolize shyness, despite their precious, beautiful appearance. They work wonderfully in small arrangements or wedding bouquets.
Calla Lillies are available year round in every color except blue in the mini variety; white and green in the large variety. Calla Lillies are one of the most striking flowers, leaving unforgettable floral arrangements. I used this flower in peach/apricot for my wedding bouquet.
Violets resemble modesty. Flower colors vary, many being violet as the name suggests, and some are blue, cream, white, yellow, or bicolored, usually blue and yellow. The ancient greeks used this flower in love potions, considering it a symbol of love and fertility. This flower works beautifully in small flower arrangements, corsages, boutonnieres and bouquets.
Anemones are available in the spring and fall in red, pink, purple and white. Anemone means fragile. Look at the striking difference between the flower petals and center color. This is by far one of my favorite, unique flowers. I think it has a lovely vintage touch, working well to adorn a wedding cake or bouquet.
Daisy is the flower of innocence, available year round. This flower is often recreated on wedding cakes and performs smashingly in small floral arrangements and bouquets.
Gardenias are available in late spring through summer in white and pink. This flower symbolizes secret love. You will find that most bridal flower hair pieces are created using this flower because of it’s fullness and elegance. It is also often recreated as a single flower on a vintage inspired cake.
Ivy symbolizes fidelity and is a great plant to use on trellises, canopies, or any other area that may need sprucing up. It can hang from flower arrangements, centerpieces, or bouquets to give them a dash of whimsy.
Orchids are available year round in every color except blue. They make for great flowers in any wedding, especially an asian inspired wedding, meaning delicate beauty.
Peonies are available in May and June in red, yellow, peach, pink and white. Peonies symbolize healing and are very impressive in large bouquets. By the way, Peony is pronounced “Pee-oh-knee”. However, everyone pronounces it a little bit differently. Click here to hear how it is pronounced.
Stephanotis is available year round in white. This a very delicate, graceful flower symbolizing good luck. Perhaps using this flower in your bouquet will bring good luck for a long, happy marriage!
