If you would like an alternative to the classic wedding bouquets, whether for yourself as a bride or for your bridesmaids, here is an idea that I think is not only practical but quite unique and attractive: purse bouquets!
This is a great way to carry your flowers because you’ll get two uses all wrapped up in one; a purse to carry your essentials that will also look fabulous in the wedding pictures.
I much prefer this look on the bridesmaids only, with the bride carrying a beautiful bouquet of her own, arranged with real seasonal flowers, but a purse bouquet can be used for anyone, even the flower girls, mothers, grandmothers, or anyone else that is part of the bridal party.
The first thing you’ll need is a purse or clutch, preferably one that matches your bridesmaid dresses or goes along with the rest of your wedding theme. After you’ve got your purses, this is all that you’ll need:
- A hot glue gun and glue sticks
- A needle and thread
- Scissors
- Silk flowers (available at stores like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby)
- Brooch Pins (also found at craft stores)
After choosing the silk flowers that you want to use, you can hold them together using hot glue and then reinforce them with a needle and thread for a better hold, especially anything with large petals.
Once you’ve got the flowers arranged how you like them, it’s time to attach them to the purse. You can do this by sewing or gluing them, but a better alternative is to use brooch pins. Hot glue a brooch pin to the back of each arrangement and then you can just pin the flowers any place on the purse that you’d like. This works great because you can move it around until you get it right, and it also makes the purse reusable without the flowers for other occasions.
