2012 Wedding Dress Trends

The styles you will be seeing on the runways for 2012′s wedding dress trends are ultra-romantic, chic, and dramatic compared to years past, with the use of very large tiered skirts, extravagant beading, oversized flowers, and vintage inspired accessories! Dress designers are getting more and more creative with their use of fabric, such as crinkled chiffon and organza, as well as the accessories they are using to adorn these fabulous dresses. Here is a list of some of my favorite trends that are popping up in the bridal community for 2012!

Monique Lhuillier

Lingerie Inspired Bustiers – Wedding gown designers are using flirty corsets with lots of feminine elements such as beadwork and lace to create surpassingly  romantic, feminine strapless gowns. Add the vintage inspired bodice to a full layered, ornate skirt and you’ve got a luxurious elegance that will awe your wedding guests.

Bridal Jackets, Capes, and Boleros – They add visual interest and a little touch of coverage to any strapless wedding dress. Aire Barcelona and  Rosa Clara have an amazing selection of lace and sheer bridal jackets. For more  pictures and jacket designers click here.

Detailed Back Wedding Dresses – The back of your wedding dress will be on display for a large portion of the ceremony, which explains why designers are paying so much attention to this area of the dress design. An open back wedding dress can be sexy and yet sophisticated, and designed to flatter your figure. I’m also in love with the intricate sheer lace that is being used on the back of many of the new 2012 dresses.

Decorative Bridal Belts -An ornamental removable bridal belt  will add pizzazz and personality to any wedding dress. Modern designers are making them with beads, ruffles, jewels, pearls, sequins, colorful silk, satin or lace, embroidered flowers and many other accessories.

Soft Colorful Wedding Gowns - Think past the white in 2012 for muted colors in blush, apricot, lavender, or darker antique creams. Splashes of color on a traditional white wedding dress are also becoming popular, with strikingly bold, colorful belts, sashes and hand embroidery in colors like gold, black, deep purple, mint, or any shade of pink.

Large Floral Details – Whether in your hair, on your wedding dress, or around your wrist, just like the new trend in wedding cakes, courageous sized flowers are adorning many brides this season. Anemones and Gardenias among the most attractive with their thick, beautiful petals.

One of my absolute favorite flower trends is how the latest designers are creating flowers made of organza and fluttering them gracefully down the skirts of their gowns.

Illusion Necklines – This is a classic style completing the look of a vintage, modern wedding dress, but adding a bit of intrigue. Look at the details in the dresses shown below.

I just love detailed lace, especially in a cream or antique white, and an illusion neckline wedding gown is a great way to incorporate it into your dress.

Crinkle Chiffon Skirts – The sheer, elegant and very lightweight fabric of crinkle chiffon can really make for a romantic wedding dress, especially amplifying the A-line style.

Vintage Style Wedding Dresses: Long, full gowns, ornamental skirts with lots of detailing in the corsets, and a center back of lacing, inspired from the late 1800′s creates a vintage inspired wedding gown but with a modern edge. Sleek dresses with the flapper flair and unique ornate headpieces are inspired from the glamorous 1920′s.
