Washi tape is essentially decorative masking tape that has become very popular for crafting. Originating in Japan, this pretty tape is most commonly made out of the bark of trees, and sometimes bamboo or hemp. Although washi tape looks very delicate, it is actually quite strong, which makes it perfect for just about any crafting project.
My daughter is a huge fan of this stuff. With her in the house, my scotch tape can never be found. I usually find pieces of it stuck on furniture and walls throughout the house. But now with washi tape, she’s in tape heaven (and me too!). It started off as a great tool for scrapbooking, but now we use it for just about everything because it’s functional and pretty!
With all of the new elegant washi tape designs, it has even become popular for wedding crafts, such as vases, candle holders, escort cards, and even wedding invitations! It’s a creative and budget friendly way to add a little bit of whimsy to your wedding decor. I’ve found some pretty creative washi tape wedding ideas, and thought I’d share what I’ve found.
Where can I buy washi tape?
Although you can buy a limited supply at your local craft stores (Even Walmart has a small selection), you can find just about any pattern, color, and style online. Koyal Wholesale has a huge selection to choose from. I especially love their glitter washi tape! I have a roll in every color. Etsy also has a really cute selection of japanese washi tape from several different Etsy stores.
